India is a vibrant country with a unique flavor, cuisine, and traditions. But some features of the life of the inhabitants of this country seem creepy and strange to the rest of the world.

Gaskets are a luxury

Only one in five Indian women use pads during their period because the attitude towards menstruation in this country is still heavily influenced by stereotypes. A woman at this time is considered “unclean”, “dirty” and even sometimes evicted from the home. That is why it is not customary to live a full life during menstruation.

Pads, tampons, and menstrual cups in India are also considered not a necessity at all, but a real luxury. Girls in India prefer to spend money on cosmetics rather than personal care products. During menstruation, rags, hay, and sometimes sand and ash are often used.

Of course, the world is moving forward and in the cities, most girls no longer live according to the old “rules”, but still in the provinces this nightmare persists.

Adults Sleep With Their Parents

Yes, teenagers and even adults can sleep in the same room with their parents. Even if the house has several bedrooms. This is a completely normal practice, which appeared due to the close spiritual connection of parents with their children.

And although in India this is the norm, in the rest of the world such a tradition is considered unusually wild.

The Best Treatment Is Self-Medication

Indians believe that you need to go to the doctor only if everything is really bad, and in other cases, they self-medicate.

There are quite a few reasons for this:

  1. No money.
  1. Faith in traditional medicine.
  1. Pressure from others (a person can be made fun of if he went to the doctor simply because of a cold).

There is also a tradition in Indian culture: people have been treated for centuries with turmeric, honey, cottage cheese, and herbs, so it’s hard for them to change something.

Don’t “kiss” The Bottle

In India, there is the main rule – to drink from everything so as not to touch the dishes with your lips. This is a matter of hygiene because many people could drink from the same bottle. And they even have a proverb “Don’t kiss the bottle, it’s not a frog” to remind you of the importance of such a rule.

Uncles And Aunts

In India, if you are older than someone, then you are one hundred percent likely to be addressed with the word “aunt”. This is normal with older people, even at work. A 20-year-old colleague might say to an older colleague, “Pass the pencil, auntie!” and this will be considered a normal situation.

Indians even believe that only ill-mannered people who grew up in poor families address those who are older by name.

Rub Oil Into The Scalp

This is another tradition that is common in India – is to rub coconut oil or any other vegetable oil on the scalp every day. That is why Indians have such strong and thick hair. In India, they even believe that coconut oil can restore color to gray hair.

And, by the way, not using oil for the head is considered bad form, as in our country, for example, it is considered not to brush your teeth.

This is what India is. A strange and interesting country with bright colors and curious traditions. And what strange habits common in other countries do you know? Tell us in the comments, others will be interested to know too!
